JustFacts Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 4, 2026
JustFacts is a news summary service available on the web at
news.attereon.com and as an iOS app.
It is built to need as little of your information as possible: there are no
accounts, no ads, no analytics trackers, and we never sell or share your
data with anyone.
What we store
- A random identifier. The app generates a random ID on
your device so the server can remember your preferences. It is not linked
to your name, email, or any real-world identity.
- Your preferences. The news categories, cities, topics,
and excluded sources you configure are stored on our server, keyed to that
random ID, solely to compile your personalized timeline.
- Your optional Gemini API key. If you add your own
Google AI Studio key to enable local & topic news, it is stored on our
server and used only to request summaries of your local coverage from
Google's Gemini API. You can remove it at any time in Settings.
- A push notification token. If you enable notifications,
Apple (or your browser, on the web) issues a delivery token that we store to
send you breaking-news alerts. Turning notifications off deletes it.
What we don't do
- No accounts, names, email addresses, or passwords.
- No advertising, no third-party analytics, no tracking across apps or
websites. Our public story and podcast pages collect anonymous, aggregate
visit statistics using our own self-hosted system — no cookies, no
third parties, and nothing that can identify you or follow you across days
or sites. The app itself sends no visit data at all.
- No sale, rental, or sharing of any user data.
- No precise location collection — local news is based only on city names
you type in yourself.
Third-party services
News summaries are generated with Google's Gemini API. The material sent to
Google consists of public news headlines, snippets, and article URLs — plus,
for local coverage, the city and topic names you configured. Public RSS feeds
from news publishers are fetched to source the underlying stories. Audio
briefs are generated with Google's text-to-speech models from those same
public summaries.
Data retention
Preferences and notification tokens are kept only while you use the
service. News stories and daily audio briefs are automatically deleted from
our servers on a rolling window measured in days.
Contact
Questions or deletion requests: justfacts@attereon.com.
Because data is keyed only to a random ID on your device, clearing the app's
data (or Safari site data on the web) severs the link entirely; email us and
we will delete the server-side records as well.
